In her own words

Olivia Harpine

As a child, I always wanted to go college and pursue a career in healthcare, specifically nursing. With having a medical story, I always wanted to go back and help people, following in the footsteps of the people who helped me. Shortly after I was born, I had to have chemotherapy for a malignant growing tumor. I was in the hospital for the first year of my life and had to come in annually for appointments after the first year. Growing up, during my appointments, I was able to see how nurses work, which includes both their clinical and emotional work. I loved my nurses growing up and wanting to be just like them, I hope to specialize in the pediatric oncology field. Being one of four children, my parents couldn’t afford college for us. They always gave us the best opportunities, however, being able to pay for college was not one of them. Pursuing my nursing career has led me to Shepherd University. The University has given me amazing opportunities to explore and expand my learning. I am almost finished my schooling, and I will soon be looking for a job.
