In her own words

Daniela Taborda-Quiros

I was born and raised in Colombia and was 11 years old when I came to this country. I came looking for that American dream that everyone talked about. I grew up almost by myself and had many rough times, but knowing this country had many wonderful things for me, I accepted the challenge and decided to work hard for my future. I am now a 24-year-old mother and wife. I had my first son at a very young age, and I could not get an education when he was born.

Ever since I was a young child, my dream has been to become a nurse. One of the main reasons I want to attain a higher education is because helping others is my passion. Getting a higher education for me means that I will be able to accomplish my dream and help others.

As a mother, the most important thing for me is to show my children that it is never too late to continue your education and that we can be whatever we want to be if we work hard for it. I plan to go into nursing school in two years and then get my Associates of Science in May of 2021. Then I will continue to obtain my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN).

Something that I keep in my mind all the time is that we can go through rough times and lose many things in the path of our life, but nobody can take away our education.
